Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN)
Origin of JUSUN


  1. National Executive Council Members, (JUSUN)
    It is made of Chairmen and Secretaries from the branches & Chapter States / Federal in Nigeria.
    Year of Registration:-
    Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) was registered by the Registrar of Trade Unions on 5th June, 2007 under the Trade Unions Act CAP 437 of 1990.
    Membership Coverage:
    The membership of JUSUN in Nigeria is seventy three thousand one hundred and forty three(73,143). Also , membership of the union comprise, all pensionable staff/ workers, every staff that earn salary and pays his or her dues in the Federal and State Judiciaries, National Judicial Council, National Judicial Institute and Judicial Service Commissions/ committee excluding Justices, Kadis and Judges of Superior courts of Records, Chief Registrars and Deputy Chief Registrars and the membership shall be maintained at the Branch and Chapter levels of the Union (see Rule 3(i) JUSUN Amended Constitution 2013).
    Rule 3(ii) of JUSUN Constitution says: ‘’ Membership of the union shall be open to all qualified workers in the Judiciary and no person shall be denied of membership on Grounds of sex, religion persuasion, political beliefs, ethnic origin or any other disabilities.
    The Constitution of JUSUN:-
    The Constitution is the basis of the contract between the members and the union to establish and operate the union. It is the Grand Norm on which the activity of the union is based.

    Government of JUSUN:-
    The Government of the union at the National level is vested in the following organs of the union:

    1.  National Delegate Conference,
    2.   National Executive Council, and
    3.  National Executive Committee.

    Similarly, Government of the union at the Branch/ Chapter level is vested in the following organs:

    1.  Branch/Chapter congress,
    2.   Branch/ Chapter Committee
    3.   Chapter Executive Committee.
    4.  All National Executive Council, all State Executive Committee and Executive of all Federal Chapters shall derive their powers from the Constitution of the union.

    Trade Union Activities:
    JUSUN is an active affiliate of the Trade Union Congress (NLC). The Congress has always be by the side of JUSUN whenever its support is required, especially during JUSUN’s trade dispute against the Federal and State Governments for Financial Independence and Autonomy of the Judiciary in Nigeria.

     An Affiliate of Nigeria Labour Congress:-
    JUSUN is affiliated to Nigeria Labour congress (NLC). As a result, we found Congress extremely supportive in the Union’s struggle for better conditions of service and in financial Independence and autonomy for the Judiciary in Nigeria.
    The National President, the General Secretary, the National Treasurer are members of the CWC / NEC of the Congress respectively.
    Training and Workshops:-
    JUSUN has organized workshops for her members locally in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Micheal Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Nigeria. JUSUN members have equally participated at NLC Summer schools and at National Judicial Institute for Judiciary education.
    Besides, JUSUN members have participated at ILO Training programme in Turin, Italy, London, Kigali, Rwanda and another workshop is coming up at the University of America, Washington, DC from 24th Nov, 2015 etc.
    Organizational Drive:-
    JUSUN is the only trade union organization in the Judiciary of Nigeria. It is true that all would be members are not yet in the fold of the union. Therefore, JUSUN’s organizational drive would bring those out to the union.
