NIGERIA UNION OF PUBLIC SERVICE REPORTORIAL, SECRETARIAL, DATA PROCESSORS AND ALLIED WORKERS

Origin of NUPSRAW

NUCSSASW was part of the Nigeria Civil Service Union until the Typists Cadre in the old western State pulled out and sought to be an independent Union. On 17th April, 1970 the Federal Ministry of Labour registered the Typists Cadre as No. 1270.

Lagos State Typist Union followed the trend and was registered on 15th March, 1973. The Typists in the former East Central State also organized themselves as typists union. All the efforts were geared towards pulling out of the Nigeria Civil Service Union completely, because their interests were never protected by that Union. For them it was a hopeless situation to continue to be part of a Trade Union that does not represent the interest of the Typist /Stenographic Cadres in the Civil Service.

BIRTH OF TYPIST AND STENOGRAPHIC UNION OF NIGERIA
The Union consolidated its efforts for self determination and recognition, when the members in a show of solidarity and unity applied for Amalgamation of the cadres to be known as Typist/Stenographic Union to the Federal Ministry of Labour in their application dated 4th April, 1977. The application for Amalgamation was based on the strength of the certificate of Registration No. 1270 of April 17th 1970 in respect of Typists Union of Western State and certificate of registration No. 1715 of 15th March 1975 in respect of Lagos State Typists Union. These application were signed by late J. A. Alajo the interim General Secretary.

REGISTRATION GRANTED
After fulfilling all the conditions demanded by the Office of the Registrar of Trade Unions, Federal Ministry of Labour.  The Typists/ Stenographic Union of Nigeria was Registered and certificate of Registration was issued in accordance with Decree 31 of 1973 and signed by Mr. J. F. Amachree, Acting Register of Trade Unions.
