RADIO, TELEVISION, THEATRE AND ARTS WORKERS UNION OF NIGERIA (RATTAWU)

Origin of RATTAWU

The Radio, Television and Theatre Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) was registered by the Federal Government of Nigeria on the 15th day of August 1978. In February 2003 at a Special Delegate Conference, held in Ibadan Oyo State, the name was changed to Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) to contain the workers in the Arts who automatically belong to this Union.

MEMBERSHIP
In accordance with the law establishing the union, her membership are from Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), National Films and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), National Gallery of Arts (NGA), National Theatre, National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), Council for Black African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC), workers in the State Owned Media and arts Councils, nationwide to mention but  a few.

MILESTONES:
Organizing the workers in the Private Sector of the Media, Arts and Cultural Sectors in Nigeria and expanding affiliation to International Labour Centres.

MISSION STATEMENT
To bargain actively for constant improvement in members welfare and productivity, and other conditions of service which will guarantee improved standard of living, protection of workers and their families, and to do everything that will impact on the positive growth and development of the Nigeria Nation.

ACTIVITIES IN THE CALENDAR YEAR:
CWC Meeting, NEC meeting, SOBON Meeting, Media Trade Group Meeting, Cultural Trade Group Meeting, and RATAFEST.
