ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT

Introduction

The Administration Department of the Congress in carrying out its responsibilities of servicing the Congress in compliance with the instruction of the General Secretary and supervision of the Deputy General Secretary supervising the Department carried out or supervised or experienced the following:

1.  Strain of Coronavirus (Covid-19)

With the emergence of the ravaging novel Coronavirus late last year and confirmation of the first case in Lagos on the 28th February, 2020, the Nigeria Labour Congress did not waste time in taking action by shutting down its offices and operations nationwide on the 23rd of March, 2020.

After the first and second rounds of the government-imposed lockdowns and with it being eased, the Congress decided to partially open its operations with the Heads of Departments and selected staff members reporting to duty at its Abuja Head Office and at the Lagos Sub-secretariat.

2.  Staff Strength

The Congress has a total number of 88 Staff members, at the Headquarters 54 staff members while at the States including FCT are 33 Staff members. In this regard a total number of 32 staff resume office everyday while others are asked to stay back at home for safety measures.

3.  Payment of Staff Salaries

Congress has been up to date in payment of the salary and benefits of all members of staff even with the menace of the Coronavirus.

4.  Retirement of two Members of Staff

During the period under consideration, two members of staff were retired as they attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 years for junior staff category. They are:

  1. Popoola Olusanya, a staff at the Head Office in Abuja was retired on the 14th of April, 2020 and;
  2. Sani Muhammed, a staff at the Plateau state Council of the Congress was retired on the 15th June, 2020.

While the entitlement of Comrade Popoola Olusanya has been paid, that of Sani Muhammed is being processed for payment.

5.  Staff 2020 Annual Leave

In spite of the menace of the Coronavirus which has imposed some restrictions on the working of the Congress, the Congress is alive to its responsibilities of allowing members of staff to observe their 2020 Annual Leave with the allowances paid.

  • Compliance with Health and Safety Protocols of Covid-19 and Provision of Safety Kits by Congress

Since appearance of the first case of the Coronavirus in Nigeria on the 28th February, 2020, the Congress has been at the forefront of campaigning for observance of compliance with health and safety protocols of Covid-19 by Nigerians.

The Congress has also provided and made available some health and safety kits like Nose Masks, Hand Sanitizers and other safety kits to some medical staff that have been at the frontline fighting to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in Nigerians.

7.  Death of Comrade Peter Osagie

Comrade Peter Osagie, a retired Security Officer of the Congress who served in Lagos Sub-secretariat passed away on the 26th of June, 2020. His burial comes up on the 11th July, 2020, in Benin, Edo State.

Finally, the department continuous to provide necessary support and services to routine activities, meetings and logistics to ensure the continued smooth running of the activities.
